Shed

It took a while but work on the shed has commenced. First the designated spot needed clearing and leveling. We brought in a digger and a dumper truck from Jamie MacQueen to perform that task.
After some pondering we decided to go with a concrete shed as that will be much sturdier than a wooden one and hopefully also less maintenance. This means that we need trenches for foundations, not just a concrete slab. Also, it will be more of a challenge as a DIY job, but we’ll see. If we get stranded at any point there’ll be professional help which is an assuring thought!
The trenches will be done tomorrow, while the majority of the digging and leveling work was completed today. Also the drainage of the area in front of the future shed has been improved as we used to have a bit of flooding there. Now a perforated pipe is laid next to the access road which empties into a trench which is in turn connected to the burn that runs to the sea…
As far as the weather is concerned, I’ve now seen weather warnings for the whole of the western part of the UK: gales and heavy rains until Sunday. Winter is not gone yet!!
Big mammas…

Sunday we had visitors. I love visitors! I sniffed their feet and their hands and they smelled very doggie. I also figured out a new trick! I jump up to them with my front paws on their legs. I can then sniff them even better. I was really proud of myself for finding that out. Apparently Roger didn’t like that at all, as he made me lie down and spoke to me in his ah-ah voice.
The highlight of the afternoon was when the male visitor brought in two other dogs. Two girl dogs and they were really big!! But I wasn’t afraid of them and I decided to wiggle my tail to show them that should not be afraid of me either! We had a bit of sniffing and licking and then they went off again. I was really tired then and crashed on Roger’s old shoes for a big nap…
Rain, wind… and more rain and wind

It’s been raining and gusting non-stop now for a couple of days. The ground near the chicken hutch is extremely soggy and you can’t really walk there without wellies. I had a peek at the Met Office website but the end is not yet in sight. Again for tonight heavy rain has been predicted together with a severe weather warning… bad news!
From a recent trip up north are the following pictures: Skye is looking really grim now with only an occasional hint of winter scenery, like a bit of snow on the Cuillin. But so far the wintery scenery has passed us by unfortunately.
Obviously we’re very busy with our puppy dog. He’s a handful, so time at the computer has been drastically reduced. He has his naughty and destructive moments but generally behaves very well. Especially at night… after reading horror stories of endless howling and whining we were prepared for nights with little or no sleep. But no, none of it. On that account he’s already a big boy! The continuing bad weather doesn’t make his house training an easy job though as he clearly hates to go out on windy, rainy days….
Weird dogs

I’ve not seen too many other dogs yet. To be honest, I’ve only seen my mum and my seven brothers and sisters. But, today I saw some really strange looking dogs running around the house. They walk about on two weird, skinny legs (I tried this as well, but crash landed on my chin) and make funny moves and noises. And when I try to sniff them they always run away… now I ask you, what dog runs away from a good sniff? Nothing beats a good sniff in my book….
How to…

… catch Roger’s hand for biting exercise:
1. Sit down
2. Look really smart
3. Put on cuddly glance
4. Wait for hand to be in reach
5. Take hand in mouth
6. Slowly apply force
7. Wait until Roger yells
8. Release hand
9. Make funny jump
10. Check Roger’s face, if angry goto 1
Good fun!
First night

We had our first night with Jingles in da house… After all the horror stories about a doggies first night in a new house we were prepared for anything. But… nothing… not a whimper when we left him alone in his crate! He cuddled up to Sheep (his huge cuddly toy sheep) and fell asleep almost immediately. We let him out twice during the night and this morning he was a bright and happy fellow, chewing away his first brekkie. Good boy!!!!!
Hurray!

I’m on Skye! After a loooooong drive from Glasgow I finally met with Claire and Roger. They did some serious talking with Andrew, exchanged all kinds of things and then I was on my way to Skye. Claire brought me a really big fluffy toy. It’s my favorite! All white and really soft. She calls it “Sheep”. I love biting it
I played for a while, nibbled on Claire’s coat and had a wee at a big castle with lots of people walking about. Then we went back into the car and I guess all that fresh air got to me… when I woke up we were already home!
I’m now way too tired to talk about all my adventures at my new home but Roger says I was a really good boy. He keeps saying that I did all my Number 2’s outside. I don’t know what he’s talking about but as long as he’s happy…
Big surprise!

We got a phone call only 10 minutes ago from Andrew, the breeder of Jingles and - quite to our surprise - Jingles will arrive tomorrow! One week earlier then we anticipated!! Watch this space for some puppy footage!
Ouch!!

This morning I found a HUMONGOUS egg in the hutch. We weighted it and it’s exactly 100 gr. I remember reading that eggs around 85 gr. are considered XXL, so we’re talking super king size here! I feel sorry for the hen that laid this monster. She must have been exhausted… Claire had it for lunch today and it appeared to have two yolks!
Annoyingly loud

Did you ever notice that when you’re watching television and the commercials come on, the sound level goes up? It goes to an annoyingly loud level so you adjust the level and then, when the program continues, you have to push it up again. What would be the reasoning behind this? Commercials are already annoying, why make them more annoying? I’m really puzzled here…
