Last hours of freedom…

February 28, 2008 | 2 Comments |

Chicken run under construction A while back we decided to restrict the freedom of our chicken and build them a reasonable sized run. The reasons: the large numbers of poops around the house, their destructiveness in the garden and the upcoming summer when the poops will attract loads of flies. Also, a dog and chicken don’t mix very well together. The temptation was just to big for Jingles and every now and then he managed to snap at one of the hens. Having been completely docile, they have no fear for Jingles at all!

Today the weather was not too bad and I started out with the timber structure. This was set up in about two hours. Tomorrow the netting will be installed and the hutch will be moved partly inside the run, effectively retaining the chicken inside the run.

Site theme updated…

February 26, 2008 | Leave a Comment |

I took the plunge and updated the site theme to a new version level. This is always a tedious job. Most things are working but… there are still problems with the Skye Search Engine which is not displaying its result page and the Google Map also refuses to work properly. I’ll dive into that during this week…

Also, the new version seems to default at a double column on the right hand side. Although the old version got rather cramped I’m not sure whether I like the new layout.

If you come across any problems, please let me know!

[Update - 27th February 2008] The Skye Search returns results again.
[Update - 27th February 2008] Only one column displaying on the right side. Back to “normal” again.

[Update - 28th February 2008] Added a new FLICKR based gallery which is very cool. It covers a broad selection of our photo’s published on FLICKR. Besides browsing in-site, there’s a neat slide show facility. Turn up your favorite music and enjoy some Skye scenery or sunsets… Further, tweaked the colors of the layout a bit, as a welcoming change to the minimalistic black layout.

Thanks to Caroline for pointing out some issues with the new template!

Bosbelasting

February 26, 2008 | 1 Comment |

Sunrises and sunsets

February 26, 2008 | 1 Comment |

With all my pictures for this blog now hosted on FLICKR, there’s time to explore FLICKR a little bit more. I downloaded an iPhoto plugin which allows me to export directly from iPhoto into FLICKR sets.

So I decided to upload a collection of my best sunrises and sunsets from the past months and share them at FLICKR.

Go ahead and check the set out on FLICKR (leave comments, if you want) or have a look at the extremely cool slideshow. Do tell me what you think…

Couch potato

February 25, 2008 | Leave a Comment |

Jingles, couch potato...This was a strange weekend. I’m glad it’s Monday again. First Roger and Claire were really busy sorting a trip to Inverness. They were talking about a party and even bought a special travel crate for me. Yuk! Well in the end we didn’t go. I think it was because Roger had a bad back. He walked about like an old man. Claire had to help him put on his socks! This was good as I could get into some really good mischief without him capable of catching me!!

I’m getting really big now. At least that’s what Claire says. I think she’s a bit sad that I’m no longer a baby. But, I can do new tricks, now I’m getting bigger. I can climb onto the sofa on my own. Roger called me “couch potato”. I don’t know what that is, but he thought it was very funny.

Today we had to go to the vets again. It was really good. I love going there. He checked my tummy as there’s still a bit of rumbling going on in there. The check-up felt like a good massage and I had to do my best not to fall asleep. He also put something in my behind and mumbled that my temp was a wee bit high. They do talk funny, those grown-ups, don’t they?? Before I knew it we were back in the car on our way home. Can’t wait to get back…

Sick

Rabbit?? Where??Today started as a bit of a disaster. It all began at 4:30 am. I felt really sick and howled and whined so hard that Roger came out of bed. Once outside I had to vomit and also had stomach cramps which gave me a bad case of running poops. Afterwards I was really miserable.

Claire also got out of bed and sat with me for a while. I slept on her lap which made me feel better. At about 8 am I was up and running again and felt much better… Where’s me brekkies??

Minor change

February 20, 2008 | 3 Comments |

flickr.gifI’m running out of disk space at my provider, so I decided today to move all the photo material to FLICKR. It will be a gradual process so clicking a thumbnail will sometimes show you the zoom-and-shading effect for pictures not hosted on FLICKR. Thumbnails hosted on FLICKR will actually take you to their website. As a bonus you will be able to browse all the photo’s there, maybe even leave a comment

[Update 23-02-2008] I found a plugin which allows FLICKR as a primary source of photo’s, while at the same time offers the lightbox effect. It will also leave you on the blog so no jumps to the FLICKR site.

Playtime

Me & DoodleVal was over today. I really like Val and I hope she saw me wiggle my tail. It was great to see her again. I made an effort not to jump up to her. Roger and Claire keep saying that people don’t like that at all. I wonder why….

The good thing of Val coming over is that Doodle could also be around!! I love Doodle! And… big surprise!! Doodle was around!!! We had a big romp on the croft, which was very good fun. But after a while I got really tired while Doodle was still bouncing around. She chased me up a bit with some barking and we had another romp. Then I was really flat out… I mean, I’m only still a small dog…

Roger was a bit cross with me as I was too wild at times. I agree, I sometimes get carried away during play but I really mean no harm so I hope Val wasn’t too cross with me…

Tennent’s please…

February 17, 2008 | 2 Comments |

By accident I spilled a bit of beer from a can of Tennent’s on the floor today. I walked to the sink to get a piece of kitchen roll to wipe it when a heard this slurping sound behind me. There he was… our little puppy Jingles, drinking the spilled beer from the floor and by the looks of it he was really enjoying it!

Faster?

February 17, 2008 | Leave a Comment |

While browsing the local newspaper today, I stumbled upon an item on current efforts by BT to upgrade certain exchanges on the island for support of broadband internet connections. The article mentioned the Glendale exchange as well. This is good news. Unfortunately the article did not mention whether the upgrade would also bring faster connections. I suspect it’s only an upgrade to support more connections…..
