Off-day

Today was an off-day. It did not start too bad with really good weather but during the morning we discovered that Jingles had developed a limp in his left back-leg. It’s very apparent when he has been sleeping. So, now what? We were really worried. As it did not seem to get any better we gave the vet a ring at about 3pm and were asked to come over at 5:30pm.

Upon examination the vet could not find anything disturbing but for a slightly swollen left knee. Also, during the thorough examination Jingles did not whimper at all, which was interpreted as a good sign. According to the vet it would have probably been a twitch he got during the morning walk. Puppies tend to be very energetic when going about on their walks. We were given some anti-inflammatory drugs and told to keep him inside as much as possible (quite a challenge for “Mr. Lifewire”) and not to worry too much. However the kind words, it really makes you sad seeing the little man struggling about with one bad leg…

An ear, please…!!

IMG_0970.JPGClaire bought a great snack for me! They’re lovely and really big. It takes me an hour to eat one. After that I need to drink loads and also need to poop. Claire calls them “pig ears” and I think she finds them disgusting… They certainly look weird. Not at all like ears… really hard with no hairs. Not like mine: floppy with furry hairs. But then again, you don’t know nowadays…

Roger said they’re bad for my tummy as they give me the runs. He said he was not going to buy them anymore. That would be a shame…

By the way, this is me on the photo carrying my new trofee. It was rather big and I haven’t got a clue what it is. I managed to pinch this on our family walk today…

The secret room

King of the hillI really love the house. Loads of room to run around. I love it when Roger chases me around the kitchen island. He’s not too quick. I can easily outrun him. I love doing that!

And yesterday I noticed an open door of a room I’ve never been into. I sneaked in and found Claire lying there. She yelled that I wasn’t allowed in but I wiggled my tail and try to jump up onto the bed. But it was way too high for my short legs. Although Claire was upset first, I think she enjoyed me being there as she put up here baby-voice to me. She does that every now and then. I’m really a big boy so it’s not necessary anymore but I guess she likes doing that. Ah well, I won’t make a fuss about it.

Anyway, I had a good sniff. I guess this must be the room where they sleep. Roger came in as well, and I got really excited. I got a sudden urge to run around the house. I did a couple of really speedy laps!! I also tried to destroy Roger’s pillow but he took me out of the room. It was good fun, though…! Must get back soon!!

Confined

Hens in the run Today at 12:30pm the chicken run was finished and the hens were closed in. Much to their annoyance, I might add. They spent quit some time exploring possible exits. Even flying up on the hutch and trying to get to the outside from there. Unfortunately the setup is fool proof, so there’s no escaping the run. The remainder of the afternoon you could hear them busy clucking about probably wondering why they can’t get out.

It remains to be seen whether this has any impact on their layers capabilities. The run is roughly 4×4 meters, which is not too confined. We’re already enjoying a reclaimed patio area with no poops scattered around. An added bonus is that we can send out Jingles for his toilet stops without any worries for the hens…
