Firewood

July 25, 2008

IMG_2499.CR2After a long wait it finally arrived. Our firewood from the Scottish Forestry Commission. I had ordered 15 tonnes of it and at about noon today I got a phone call from the truck driver of Skye Transport that he was on his way from Glenbrittle.

Upon arrival of the truck I was a bit surprised. What a massive pile of trunks!! It appeared that the load was not 15 tonnes but well over 20 tonnes! The driver had made a mistake and had loaded too much wood at the forest. He wasn’t going back to Glenbrittle so we got 6 tonnes more. Good!

The pile should be well enough for 2 years of fireworks in the stove. The only thing… I need to saw it and log it. We already invested in a new chainsaw and an axe. My next job is obviously waiting….

The reason I initially ordered 15 tonnes was that the 20 tonnes required a bigger lorry. I wasn’t sure whether such a lorry could come down our driveway. But that appears to be no problem!

Weather: still hot, windy although the wind died down and I was chased inside by the midges :-(

    Rogier,

Wow !!! I am well impressed with your delivery of Glen Brittle forest on the back of a lorry.

Is the whole of that load for you?? Surely that must be more than 20 tonnes??
Can you tell me how much (email if you would prefer)
as that will be an early priority when we are up there.
Can’t wait to buy a chain saw too what fun!!

You could build a wooden shed to go with your block shed now you have all the skills for shed building AND a chain saw.

With the news today of more energy price rises wood is going to be a major part of our heating plan.

    Great stuff keep it up

    Rob

    Roger Hi,
Hope you dont mind me jumping in on your Blog, we have just finished a build on Skye, funnily enough just the other side of Dunvegan from you, I noticed your superior pile of logs from Glenbrittle, I will need to order some logs soon to start drying out for next winter would it be possible for you to mail me the Forestry contact, it would save me some time tracking it down, would be quite happy to swap info for a pint in the cellar bar when we move up,
    regards

    Tim

Hi any chance of getting the phone number and name of the guy to speak to at the Forestry Commission? I need to get in some logs.

    Thanks
